We use the observed evolution over redshift of the K-band galaxy luminosity function by Cirasuolo et al. (2009), as well as an estimation on spectral-type fractions, in the redshift range from 0.2 to 1, using a multiwavelength sample of about 6000 galaxies from the All-wavelength Extended Groth Strip International Survey (AEGIS). We derive fractions of red, blue, starburst galaxies and active galactic nuclei in that redshift range. We compare our EBL estimates with that from semi-analytics models, and discuss the consequences for attenuation of very high energy photons sources due to the EBL.
