Barry F. Madore scientific staff of The Observatories of the Carnegie Institutions at Washington (OCIW) gave an interesting talk on "What, if anything, is a galaxy?" which is related to one of his scientific interest: 'The complexities of deciphering galaxy evolution'.
Madore was the founder of NASA Extragalactic Database (NED). He is also a co-investigator on NASA's GALaxy Evolution eXplorer (GALEX) satellite, which is surveying the high-galactic-latitude sky in two ultraviolet bandpasses. GUAIX member Armando Gil de Paz had the opportunity of investigate with him during his postdoc stay at Pasadena (California, USA).
