He obtained his B.S. degree in Physics & Astrophysics at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid (UCM) in 1995 and the Ph.D. at the Astrophysics Department of the same university between 1996-2000 under the supervision of Dr. Jaime Zamorano. Between 2000-2002 Dr. Gil de Paz was a JPL Postdoctoral scholar at IPAC working with Dr. Barry F. Madore. In 2005 he returned to the UCM with a Marie Curie Experienced Researcher contract as a postdoc of the MAGPOP (Multi-wavelength Analysis of Galaxy POPulations) European Network and since 2007 he has a "Ramón y Cajal" professorship.
Dr. Gil de Paz in mainly interested in Extragalactic Astronomy. His work have been mainly focused in the multi-wavelength study of the stellar populations of local star-forming galaxies: from nearby grand-design spirals, to the more active UCM-Survey galaxies, finishing with the actively star-forming Blue Compact Dwarfs. He is PI of the CAHA-XUV project and co-I of the Local Volume Legacy, 11HUGS, and MAGPOP-ITP projects and member of the GALEX Science team. He also led the GALEX Ultraviolet Atlas of Nearby Galaxies (see MAST HLSP webpage) and the Palomar/Las Campanas Atlas of Blue Compact Dwarf Galaxies.
