Juan Carlos Muñoz at LAM
Juan Carlos Muñoz is currently working at the Laboratoire d'Astrophysique de Marseille (LAM) for three months, under the supervision of Samuel Boissier. The goal of this collaboration is to use the multi-wavelength surface brightness profiles of the spiral galaxies in the SINGS sample to constrain the theoretical predictions of Boissier's models.
These models implement the chemical and spectro-photometric evolution of disk-galaxies in a consistent way, and are able to predict the present-day surface brightness profiles at different wavelegnths as a function of the circular velocity and angular momentum of the disk.
The observed data that we have recently derived as part of the GALEX-SINGS collaboration constitute an empirical test for these models, and will allow us to infer the dynamical properties of spiral galaxies. Read more about this project.
