Ignacio Ferreras visits the UCM
Ignacio Ferreras, who works at the Department of Space and Climate Physics (Mullard Space Science Laboratory, University College London), has spent one day (17/12/2008) at the UCM visiting the people working on stellar populations. He has given the seminar entitled "Archaeology of early-type galaxies".
In this seminar Ignacio has presented new results (see astro-ph/0812.2029) obtained using a new estimator of line strength indices based on the computation of a boosted-median pseudo-continuum. Interestingly that work concludes that the star formation history of Virgo cluster elliptical galaxies can be explained with a nearly constant star formation timescale with respect to velocity dispersion, whereas formation epoch is strongly correlated.
