J. Gallego represented GUAIX at the Progress Meeting of the WP5000 group of the E-ELT-Prep FP-7 project that was held today at CSIC headquarters in Madrid. GUAIX researchers lead the task 2 of the Work Package 5000. Task 2 is to define the capabilities that the ELT-specific processing pipelines should provide.

The E-ELT-Prep project is funded by the European Community 7th Framework Programme under Contract INFRA-2.2.1.28. The E-ELT Preparation Project complements the 2007-2010 Final Design of the European Extremely Large Telescope (E-ELT, see also the brochures). E-ELT Prep has a total budget of ~ 6.0 M€, including a 5.0 M€ contribution from the European Commission, and runs for two years, from January 2008 to December 2009.

As directed by the ESO Council representing the Member States, E-ELT Prep activities are conducted by ESO as a mono-partner, with contributions from 26 third party Institutes. UCM is among them throught the GUAIX participation in the WP5000, which is coordinated by M. Mas (CAB-CSIC).

The aim of the WP5000 is to define the top-level requirements on the tools that will be used by the European astronomical community to access the E-ELT facility and the data that it will produce, in order to maximize its scientific output.
