IV Summer Course in Astrostatistics
By spr - Posted on June 12th, 2008
Currently (until June 14th) I'm attending the IV Summer Course of Statistics for Astronomer at Penn State University.
Lectures cover several hot topics in statistics, such as non parametric methods, bayesian analysis, bootstraping, etc. Astronomers tend to missuse the statistical tools. In the other hand, Statisticians aren't used to treat heteroscedastic data (data with different measurement errors). Furthermore, the populations of astronomical objects are rarely normal.
More than fifty people all arounf the world are attending the summer course, that started in year 2005.
