My research is focused on the study of the star formation in
galaxies. This is also the main goal of the
UCM Star Formation Group (SFG). There are two main
aspects in this study:
1) analize extended nearby
galaxies with resolved star-forming complexes to
understand what triggers star formation in individual
galaxies (see, e.g.,
Pérez-González et
al. 2003 or
Pérez-González et
al. 2006);
2) characterize the population of
star-forming galaxies at intermediate and high
redshift to understand how galaxies formed and evolved
from the beginning of the Universe (e.g.,
Pérez-González et
al. 2005). These galaxies are detected with different
techniques. I am especially interested in galaxies
detected through their H&alpha emission or their dust
emission in the infrared (IR).
I am a member of
GUAIX, a group dedicated to
software development for astronomical instruments. I was
specially involved in the development of the reduction
pipeline for the
FRIDA instrument in the
Gran Telescopio de Canarias
(GTC).
I am also an associated member of
GOYA, a project related to the
exploitation of the near-infrared multi-object spectrograph
EMIR on
GTC.
I am a member of
SAGE, a
Spitzer Legacy Project for
the the multi-wavelength study of the Large Magellanic
Cloud.
