Eduardo Bendek visits UCM
Eduardo Bendek from Paranal Observatory of the European Souther Observatory ESO have visited UCM. He gave a seminar (Astronomical Instrumentation at VLT) to students of the Máster en Astrofísica and met astronomers of Departamento de Astrofísica y CC. de la Atmósfera.
Eng. Eduardo Bendek is the instrument responsible of the Infrared Spectrometer And Array Camera ISAAC. ISAAC is an IR (1 - 5 μm) imager and spectrograph that lies at the Nasmyth B focus of VLT 8.2m UT1 (ANTU). It has two arms, one equipped with a 1024 x 1024 Hawaii array, and the other with a 1024 x 1024 InSb Aladdin array. The Hawaii arm is used at short wavelengths (1 - 2.5 μm).
Some of the projects of our group need infrared imagers and spectrographs like ISAAC. Jesús Gallego and Pablo G. Pérez González were using ISAAC to obtain infrared spectra of star-forming galaxies at high redshifts (z~2) last december. Read the news Observing at Paranal
