Seminario de Carlos López San Juan
"Fusiones mayores, menores y evolución galáctica desde z=1" es el título del seminario ofrecido por Carlos López San Juan a los estudiantes y profesores de Astrofísica de la UCM.
Víctor Villar Pascual, a new PhD
GUAIX member Víctor Villar Pascual has obtained his PhD with his thesis work: "Propiedades físicas de las galaxias con formación estelar intensa a z~0,84". Browse the pictures at image gallery
First GTC data for the ESO/GTC SHARDS project
The new Moon at March 13rd and 14th provided excellent quality nights at the Roque de los Muchachos Observatory. These days Pablo G. Pérez (SHARDS PI) and J. Gallego were visitors at the 10.4m GTC telescope. During this observing run, GUAIX members obtained superb deep images using the first of the medium band filters corresponding to the ESO/GTC SHARDS project.
Infrared Emission, ISM and Star Formation
From the 22nd to the 24th of February 2010, the Max-Planck-Institut für Astronomie in Heidelberg hosted an international meeting focused on the interplay between star formation and the interstellar medium (ISM). The central topic of the workshop was the still debated nature of the tight correlation between infrared and radio emission in galaxies, although other more general properties of the ISM were also discussed. GUAIX member Juan Carlos Muñoz-Mateos gave a talk describing the radial distribution of dust properties in the galaxies of the Spitzer Infrared Nearby Galaxies Survey (SINGS).
Visit to Dept. of Astronomy, University of Florida
During the last February 4th and 5th, GUAIX members Cardiel, Zamorano and Gallego joined the UCM delegation that visited the University of Florida. During the visit, they were able to assist to the NASA STS-130 shuttle night launch.
