VIIth International Marseille Cosmology Conference

During the last 29 June - 3 July 2009, GUAIX member Jesús Gallego attended to the VIIth International Marseille Cosmology Conference "HARVESTING THE DESERT: THE UNIVERSE BETWEEN REDSHIFT 1 AND 3" where he had the opportunity of meeting his IAC collabortors and most of the teams that work on galaxy evolution.

214th Meeting of the American Astronomical Society

GUAIX member Juan Carlos Muñoz Mateos has attended the 214th Meeting of the American Astronomical Society, held in Pasadena (California) from June 7 to June 11, as well as two smaller meetings of the S4G and LVL surveys. The AAS meeting brought together over 1100 astronomers, mostly from the USA, who presented and discussed their latest results through several talks and posters. Juan Carlos presented a poster describing the radial distribution of dust properties in the SINGS sample, as well as an ongoing analysis of integral field spectroscopy data of NGC4654 as part of the CLUES collaboration, leaded by Armando Gil de Paz. Despite the busy week and June Gloom, the attendants managed to find some spare time and have some fun together, including a Dodgers-Phillies baseball game with some members of the S4G team. As you can guess from Juan Carlos' face, he has no idea what is going on in the match.

May 2009: AEGIS meeting at Harvard

Rainbow talk J. Gallego at CfA

The last 18 to 20 May 2009 the AEGIS collaboration meet at Harvard, Boston.

UCM was confirmed to host the AEGIS meeting in december 2009.

E-ELT-Prep FP-7 project Progress Meeting

J. Gallego represented GUAIX at the Progress Meeting of the WP5000 group of the E-ELT-Prep FP-7 project that was held today at CSIC headquarters in Madrid. GUAIX researchers lead the task 2 of the Work Package 5000. Task 2 is to define the capabilities that the ELT-specific processing pipelines should provide.

The E-ELT-Prep project is funded by the European Community 7th Framework Programme under Contract INFRA-2.2.1.28. The E-ELT Preparation Project complements the 2007-2010 Final Design of the European Extremely Large Telescope (E-ELT, see also the brochures). E-ELT Prep has a total budget of ~ 6.0 M€, including a 5.0 M€ contribution from the European Commission, and runs for two years, from January 2008 to December 2009.

Claudia by Nuria & Sergio

Claudia 1.0 is the result of a project developed by our Astronomer and Software Engineer Sergio Pascual in close collaboration with Nuria.

Claudia is a new member of the GUAIX family which is very happy for this success. Congratulations!
